Podium Position for Fricke in Aussie Titles
Max finished off his 4 round Australian Title campaign with a 2nd place which elevated him to 3rd place overall in the Championship.
After heading into the final round in equal 4th and with just 6 points separating 1st and 5th, Fricke needed a solid final round to lift him in the overall rankings. With three different winners in each round so far it was obvious that anything could happen. Everyone was riding very well and good finish was important to secure a spot on the rostrum.
“I had done well in the first round at Kurri Kurri scoring 15 points and taking equal 2nd place and then scored a consistent 11 points in the subsequent rounds at Undera and Gillman. However, going in to the final round with the scores being so tight it was necessary to make the A final to get as many additional points as possible,” he said.
After starting well in the final round with 3 wins he then dropped a couple of points but still managed to be 2nd on points and transferred straight into the A final where he finished in 2nd place. This added another 3 points to his finishing score and secured 3rd place in the series, just one point ahead of Rohan Tungate and three points behind eventual winner, Brady Kurtz. Sam Masters finished one point behind Brady to take 2nd place overall.
“It was a very close series with each round having a different winner and no one rider dominating. Top 5 place was the objective of many of the riders to secure a spot in the GP Qualifying events which will be held in Europe later in the year, said Fricke.
“I’m really happy to have achieved that and will now concentrate on the Australian U21 Final which will be held on 23 January at Gillman in Adelaide. This is my last event in Australia before heading back to the UK to commence the 2016 season in March”.
Final scores for top 5 positions were:Brady Kurtz – 55, Sam Masters – 54, Max Fricke – 52, Rohan Tungate – 51, Nick Morris – 48
