Speedway Grand Prix Qualifier

Things have been travelling along quite well since the start of the season and I’ve been scoring consistently for Belle Vue and had a few pretty good performances including featuring in the  Speedway GB “Heat of the Week” at a home meeting.

Placing 4th in the Australian Senior Solo Championships meant I qualified to contest one of the 4 GP Qualifier events at which the top 7 finishers progress to the semi finals to be held in June.

My mechanic and I drove the 24 hrs from Manchester to Lonigo in Italy where my round was to be held and I lined up against a very strong field of riders which included 3 previous GP contenders.  I was really  hoping to finish in the top 7 but things fell into place for me on Sunday and I rode really well and finished on 12 points in 2nd position winning three of my races and also getting a 2nd and a 3rd.   It’s such a confidence boost to know that I can compete at this level and perform well against such quality opposition, particularly since it was a track that I’d never seen before.   I am rapt and now looking forward to the semi final in June.  At the semi the top 8 riders will progress to the final and those riders will then be fighting for a top 4 place to earn a start in next year’s World Championship GP series.

Although I don’t expect that to happen, it’s great to even be in a position to have a go at this event and a great experience.

Straight after the event we headed back to Manchester where I’ve got a meetings on Wednesday and Thursday before heading over to Denmark for my first race with Region Varde on Friday.  I hope I can carry on my form from this event through these meetings.
