125cc Junior Aussie Speedway Title Wrap Up
We’ve been hitting the road lately riding a 350cc support race for the first round of the Senior Solo Australian Titles which was held in Brisbane on Saturday 7 January and then the second round at Kurri Kurri which also hosted the Junior Speedway 125cc Titles from 13 – 16 January.
The 350cc race was a lot of fun and pretty fast paced racing and it’s great to have the opportunity to race on the really well prepared tracks that the senior guys are racing on. I had a great night at Brisbane and made the final on second highest points and placed second behind Jack Holder.
The Junior Title racing at Kurri Kurri was also pretty full on. I was one of the 6 seeded riders that were given automatic entry into the Title event and another 36 riders had to go through qualifying to determine the remaining 10 riders to go through. So, a pretty good field lined up for the title event held on Friday. I completed the 5 rounds on 14 points (2nd) which put me in Blue for the final lineup which included Brady Kurtz in Red, Jack Holder in White and Lawson Walters (who rode an awesome B final to get through to the A final) in Yellow.
With a wide start gate the first corner was pretty crowded and with no-one prepared to give an inch, Jack and I tangled twice resulting in 2 restarts. On the 3rd restart, I unfortunately had a fall (again on that first corner) and was excluded. I was so disappointed not to be able to run the final race to see what could have happened and had to settle for 4th place. Congratulations to Brady who took the title, Jack 2nd and Lawson 3rd.
The pairs title was then contested on Sunday and my Victorian partner, Cooper Riordan and I rode really well together and took second place behind Brady and Jack who teamed up for New South Wales. This makes it my third year in a row that I’ve taken 2nd place in the pairs title and I’m pretty happy with that.
Next weekend it’s off to Adelaide to again ride in the 350cc support race for the Senior Solos in the 3rd and final round of the Australian Title and I’m looking forward to that which should have some great racing. Then on the 28th January it’s back to Kurri Kurri to contest the Junior 350cc Australian Title. I’m sure this will present me with another great contest and I can’t wait.
