Podium in 1st Round Aussie Titles
Max put in a solid performance at Kurri Kurri Speedway in the First Round of the Australian Solo Speedway Championship held on 2nd January finishing in third position.
Max had a great run through the 5 heats finishing second on points putting him straight into the “A” final. He made a great start and initially lead the final from the gate but lost drive coming out of turn 4 which relegated him back to 4th position. He was able to overtake Brady Kurtz but the gap to the leaders was too much for him to pull back and he finished 3rd overall.
“I was really happy with the way I rode throughout the heats, said Max. “My bike felt fast and I was getting some great gates which is really important.
“The field this year is really open with any number of riders capable of winning the title and getting consistent results will be the key. One mistake, mechanical or fall in any heat could make all the difference to the end result. I learnt the hard way last year after finishing equal 3rd on points and then being relegated to 4th on count back that even one point can make a huge difference to the Championship outcome.”
“The goal for the series is to make the “A” final at each round and hopefully score enough points to finish near the top at the end of the week after completing all 4 rounds” he said.
“So far I’m really happy with how I’m going” he concluded.
Overall scores after completion of the 1st round are: Rohan Tungate – 18 points, Max Fricke and Sam Masters – 15 points, Brady Kurts – 11 points.
Round 2 will be held at Undera Park Speedway in Victoria on Wednesday 6 January with the final 2 rounds being held Friday 8 January at Gillman, Adelaide and Sunday 10 January at Mildura.
