The Play Offs and World U21

I’ve been very fortunate to make the semi finals in my teams in Denmark, Poland and the UK however, with defeats in two there’s just the 2nd semi final for Belle Vue Aces in the UK left to determine if I actually make a grand final.

My team, Region Varde Elite Sports, in Denmark contested a very dramatic superfinal between the top 4 sides in the league. Each of the teams led at different stages throughout the event and were separated by just 4 points in the end. Unfortunately we finished 4th but put up a really good fight with some close and very tense racing enjoyed by those who came to support their teams.

It was then onto the two legs in Poland where Rybnik (2nd on the ladder) met Ostrovia.  We had a pretty disappointing away first meeting in difficult conditions and went down by 18 points.  Although we won the return home match by 8 points, giving Ostrovia 18 points lead from the 1st leg was just too much to pull back.  We’ve had a lot of success this season so not making the final after fighting for top spot on the ladder all year is pretty disappointing.

I’ve achieved some good results in both Poland and Denmark this year, particularly in the beginning of the season, and would like to thank both RVE and Rybnik for giving me the place on their teams.

That leaves just Belle Vue in the UK yet to be decided.  We had our first semi final at home last Monday and led from the beginning.   The whole team put in some good performances over our rivals, the Swindon Robbins, and we go into the return match next Monday, 21 September, with a 14 point lead.  We’re pretty confident that it should be enough to get us through to the Grand Final.  It’s a pretty significant result for the Aces who haven’t made the semi finals in the last 10 years so we are considering this season a success even if we don’t make it to the final.

But first, I am off to the Pardubice, Czech Republic for the final round of the World U21 Championship on Saturday 19  September.  I go into the event in equal 5th position and really hope for a good meeting to at least sustain that overall spot.
