2014 Premier League Pairs Champions

I’ve had the most amazing month and this was capped off perfectly last Friday when my team mate, Sam Masters, and I took home the silverware from the prestigious Premier League Pairs meeting.

With this meeting being televised live on Foxtel it provides a great opportunity to showcase what you can do to a worldwide audience and to do well can significantly raise your profile however, this is not usually a meeting I would have got to race. It’s generally known that the top two riders in each team will be put forward to represent their club. However with our No. 1 Craig Cook winning a wildcard to the Cardiff GP and therefore not able to ride, it left an opening and I was given the nod to race for the Monarchs.

The competition is obviously top class being the best riders in the Premier League and we were at pretty long odds to win but were still rated a good outside chance because of the amazing form the Monarchs are showing this year as the outstanding performers in the league as a team.

It didn’t start well with me touching the tapes in my first heat and having to start 15mts back. Sam came third which meant a poor score for us and in this format, any last place was going to make it very difficult to make the semi’s. But, we never gave up and just got better and better as the night went on.

We went into our final heat 2 points behind the other team and needed a 1st and 2nd to progress to the semi and we did it. The semi was equally as good and we went 1 and 2 again which meant – into the final.

I would have been happy with that as in the final we were up against the home team and top scorers so far. But, once again the Monarchs triumphed and we take the title back to Edinburgh for the first time in 28 years and write our names in the Monarchs history books In the process.
